Me, Myself and I (Brenda C Manheim' s short story)
Being an artist, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, is fulfilling as I devote my time to painting. As a child I loved creating and designing paper doll clothes and making my own baby doll clothes. I have come full circle to being an artist who has reclaimed the creative aspect of my life. Life experiences from then to now has given me a broad view of how I create. My life took me on many varied jobs until I pursued a commercial art degree in the early 1990's. Upon completion of that degree I entered East Carolina University where I received a BFA in Art Education with a concentration in painting and drawing. After retiring in 2012 from teaching I have been free to embark on a career of painting full time. My art includes Christian worship art. My faith is an important part of who I am as an artist. I spend my time experimenting with media, tools, ideas, and techniques in my studio, Heart & Hands in Jacksonville, NC.
I recently saw a quote that I really love because it pretty much sums up who I am now: "Maybe the journey
isn't so much about becoming anything, Maybe it's about unbecoming everything that isn't really you so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place". (unknown author) As for the future, who knows? I don't like to predict but can only hope that I make visual contributions to people's lives that they can love and enjoy. I am just loving life to the fullest and I have once again become that child of creativity from long ago.
